Not all of our clients have an aging parent, some have issues themselves. Imagine being retired and ready to travel and enjoy the life you have planned for only to discover you have a debilitating disease with no cure. You go from “where should we go first?” to “how am I going to pay for extended care and make sure there is something left for my spouse?” – the last thing on your mind. After the shock wears off you are still at a loss as to even begin planning, what to do or where to go first.
A consultation with Planning For Seniors is a good place to start. We look at income and assets, consider the options and educate the client on the process so they know what lies ahead and when to proceed. Knowing that one part of this journey you were not expecting has some answers can give you the peace of mind to address other issues as they arise.
CASE A: A 72 year old male diagnosed with MS in his 60’s is concerned about his eventual need for a Skilled Nursing Facility and how to pay for it as well as making sure his wife has something left to live on after he is gone. We were able to look at his income and assets, put a plan in place and a timeline for that plan. He is healthy enough at this time to do some traveling but knows when the time comes for skilled care the plan is in place and he and his family can move forward with our help.
