Planning for Seniors helps client on a daily basis, find a way to pay for extended care of a family member or loved one that is unique to their particular need. Every case is different and requires an expertise that has been refined over the years, by Deborah, our founder. Because each case is specific to the client, and may require additional assistance, Deborah built a network of professionals that she can invite into the case, if needed. She has expanded this team over her 20 plus years in the business. These are fellow professionals, who are also very knowledgeable in their respective fields, and operate with total integrity.
CASE E: The family of an 82 year old woman had been taking turns caring for her in their homes, but she began to need more care then they could handle by themselves, and they turned to Deborah for assistance. The woman had cash, investments, and two homes, which put her way over the Medi-Cal guideline for property. She also needed an assessment for care placement, and her family didn’t know which facility might be the most appropriate for her necessary level of care. Once Deborah crafted the initial strategy, she called in the other professionals on her team.
Even though there was a Trust and Power of Attorney, something had to be done with the homes, as the family was considering either renting or selling them. An attorney from Deborah\’s team, reviewed existing legal documents and created a specific trust for the homes. This allowed the homes to be rented or sold, without causing Medi-Cal ineligibility.
We relied on a financial planner to help with the liquidation of certain investments, that could have created ineligibility, and we had a banker set up new accounts for the liquidated monies after the “spend down.” Planning for Seniors then called a care coordinator, who did an assessment to help with client placement into the appropriate facility. Once the client was placed in the SNF, Planning for Seniors helped her apply for the Long-Term Medi-Cal benefit, disclosed all transactions, acquired the Medi-Cal benefit, and put the family’s mind at ease.
